PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a water-based dispersion, sufficiently high in temporal stability, for treating self-crosslinking fibers. SOLUTION: This water-based dispersion is obtained by the emulsion polymerization of a mixture of monomers containing a polymerizable monomer having a glycidyl group and a polymerizable monomer having a polycarboxylic acid group and/or an anhydrous carboxylic acid group.
