PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium cobalt-based multiple oxide capable of improving load characteristic and cycle characteristic particularly in the use for a positive electrode active material of a lithium secondary battery. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the lithium cobalt-based multiple oxide containing F atom is performed by mixing a lithium compound, a cobalt compound, a fluorine compound and an alkaline earth metal compound and firing. A cobalt compound having≥1 m<SP>2</SP>/g BET specific surface area is used as the cobalt compound, a lithium fluoride (LiF) having≥1 m<SP>2</SP>/g BET specific surface area is used as the fluorine compound and the firing is carried out at 800-1,100°C.
