PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molding die for silica glass, which has a transfer pattern shape allowing to prevent from the occurrence of biting of silica even in the case of the molding dies of silica glass and glassy carbon having different coefficients of thermal expansion. SOLUTION: The molding die for silica glass is a molding die for transfer, comprising glassy carbon for shaping a recessed pattern on the surface of heated and softened silica glass. The pattern 3 formed on the surface of the molding die 1 has a projected shape, and the faces for forming the height direction are formed by inclined faces having anglesθ<SB>1</SB>andθ<SB>2</SB>, of 20-80°based on the reference surface 2 of the molding die.
