PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device capable of reducing its manufacturing cost, and to provide a projector using the optical device. SOLUTION: The optical device 40 equipped with a plurality of optical modulators 42R modulating a plurality of color light beams by every color light beam, and a color composing optical device 43 composing optical images formed by the respective modulators 42R is equipped with the holding frame 60 of the modulator 42R and a fixing member 70 attached to the luminous flux incident end face 431 of the optical device 43. The frame 60 has a cylindrical or pin-like projection 64, and the member 70 is equipped with a pin-like projection 74 inserted in the cylindrical projection 64 of the frame 60 or a cylindrical projection 74 in which the pin-like projection 64 of the frame 60 is inserted. Since sufficient bonding area is secured by the projecting parts of both projections, the modulator 42R is surely fixed on the optical device 43 regardless of the shape of the frame 60.
