PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a knife exchanger for a drum type shear, which carries out the most part of knife exchanging work on an automation basis, drastically shortens working hours, contributes to reduction in the number of operators, dispenses with a spare drum type shear, eliminates handling of a heavy load, and is improved in working safety. SOLUTION: The knife exchanger for the drum type shear is formed of a knife exchanger body 12 which includes knife receiving stands 24 arranged therein at vertical intervals corresponding to an interval between a knife mounting portion 4b of an upper rotary drum 4 and a knife mounting portion of a lower rotary drum; and an elevating means 19 for elevating/lowering the knife exchanger body along a vertical opening 5 so as to be opposed to the knife mounting portions of the respective upper and lower rotary drums 4 in a shear housing 2. Herein at least one of the rotary drum or the knife exchanger body is provided with knife delivery means 25, 47 for moving knives between the knife mounting portion of the rotary drum and the knife receiving stand 24.
