PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for monitoring the formation state of slime obstructing the normal operation of a system comprising an industrial water system and a waste water system for paper industry, cooling water, etc., and a method using the device for injecting an optimum amount of the most suitable kind of slime preventing agent. SOLUTION: The device comprises a disc-shaped slime forming part 1 which can rotate at an arbitrary rotational speed in the circumferential direction while immersing its lower part in monitored water 2, and a slime formation detecting means comprising a projector 7 and a light receiver 8 installed in the vicinity of the upper part of the slime forming part. The amount of the slime in the monitored water 2 is detected by using the device, and the slime prevention is most suitably carried out based on the detected result. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
