A filter removes biologically degradable gaseous impurities from air. The filter surface has a fixed film-culture of micro-organisms which devour the gaseous impurities. The filter is fabricated from a bio-degradable plastic and is sub-divided into zones. The filter material incorporates two types of rapidly decomposing plastic.
