A method and system for reducing or removing foam (24) present in a glass melting furnace (10), including providing an ultrasonic energy emitted from at least one ultrasonic energy source (22) to the foam (24) present above the surface of a molten material (18). The ultrasonic energy is effective to reduce or remove at least a part of the foam (24).
