<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based ink affording high printing quality for plain paper, recycled paper or coated paper and having excellent gas resistance and to provide a water-based ink set having low light source dependence of the color of records. <P>SOLUTION: The water-based ink comprises (a) a pigment, (b) water and (c) one or more kinds selected from the group consisting of acetylene glycol and/or an acetylene alcohol surfactant and di(tri)ethylene glycol monobutyl ether and/or (di)propylene glycol monobutyl ether and a 1,2-alkylene glycol.
