<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal projector less in the lowering of color reproducibility at low cost. <P>SOLUTION: A color separation and composition optical system of a projection unit 14 is equipped with a dichroic mirror 26 which separates B light from the illumination light emitted by a light source 22, a 2nd polarized light rotating element 31 and a 2nd PBS 32 which separate G light and R light reflected by the dichroic mirror 26, and a composing prism 29 which puts those light beams of three different colors together. A dichroic filter 24 which removes yellow light is arranged right behind the light source 22. Consequently, the yellow light is removed from the illumination light, so the projection light projected on a screen 34 through a projection lens 33 includes no yellow light and a decrease in color reproducibility is suppressed. Further, the yellow light is removed before being incident on the optical system, so the decrease in color reproducibility is minimized. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
