PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing toner-scattering and maintaining a polishing force for a photoreceptor for a long period. SOLUTION: Regarding the image forming apparatus, a developing apparatus for supplying toner to an electrostatic latent image formed on the surface of the photoreceptor 2, a transfer unit for transferring the toner image formed by the developing apparatus to a recording medium, and a cleaning device 7 for removing the residual toner 16 on the surface of the photoreceptor 2 are arranged in the periphery of the photoreceptor 2. The cleaning device 7 is provided with a cleaning blade 10 for removing the residual toner 16 on the surface of the photoreceptor 2, a polishing roller 11 arranged on the upstream side of the blade 10 in the moving direction of the photoreceptor 2 so as to polish the surface of the photoreceptor 2 while sticking the residual toner 16 on the circumferential surface of the roller 11, and a carrying roller 12 for discharging the residual toner 16 from the cleaning device 7. As for the carrying roller 12, a spiral blade 18 is arranged on the circumferential surface of the rotating shaft 17, and the peak part of the spiral blade 18 rotates in contact with the polishing roller 11 so as to scrape the residual toner 16.
