PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of a variable cylinder type internal combustion engine capable of maintaining vibration isolation effect by a support device even if the support device having isolation characteristics variably controlled in idling operation fails. SOLUTION: This control device of the variable cylinder type internal combustion engine 2 is supported on the support device 3 having the variably controlled vibration isolation characteristics and operated by switching between an all cylinder operation in which all cylinders 10 are operated and a partial cylinder idling operation in which the operation of a part of the cylinders 10 is stopped. Also the control device comprises trouble detection means 4 and 15 detecting the trouble of the support device 3, a control stop means 4 stopping the variable control of the vibration isolation characteristics when the trouble of the support device 3 is detected, discrimination means 4, 13, 15, and 16 discriminating whether the internal combustion engine 2 is in idling operation or not, and a prohibition means 4 prohibiting the partial cylinder idling operation when the operation is discriminated to be in the idle operation by the discrimination means and the trouble of the support device 3 is detected.
