PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material supply device capable of securely supplying sheet materials one by one irrespective of thickness of the sheet material by a simple configuration and to provide an image forming device and a document reading device. SOLUTION: A detection device 250 detecting the paper taken out of a manually operated tray 254 and fed into a paper conveyance passage is arranged on the downstream side in the direction of paper conveyance of a pair of paper feeding rollers 283, 285. A control part 10 determines a conveyance condition of the paper taken out of the manually operated tray 254 based on a detection signal outputted from the detection device 250 to bring a separation roller 285 into pressure contact with the paper feeding roller 283 or make it leave the paper feeding roller 283 based on the result of determination.
