PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent malfunction of synchronizing separation with respect to a video signal subjected to ghost elimination using a transversal filter. SOLUTION: The television receiver is provided with a distortion correct circuit 121 that corrects the level of a vertical synchronizing signal of a video signal subjected to ghost elimination processing with the transversal filter 108 and with a clip circuit 109, that clips the pedestal level of the video signal at a reference pedestal level decided by a microcomputer 120, so as to prevent the malfunction of synchronizing separation processing of a synchronizing separator circuit 125.
