PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard sheet stable and low in earing ratio and also excellent in rivet formability and tearability as an Al-Mg-Mn can cover material mainly used for a negative pressure can. SOLUTION: This aluminum alloy hard sheet for a can cover has a composition containing 0.8 to 3.0% Mg, 0.01 to 1.2% Mn, 0.10 to 0.50% Fe and 0.05 to 0.40% Si, in which the content of Ti is controlled to <=0.03%, and the balance substantially Al. As the texture conditions in the central part in the sheet thickness direction, (1) three conditions in which the total of the orientation density in the Cu orientation, S orientation and Brass orientation belonging toβfiber in the rolled texture components is <=55 times that in the random orientation, (2) the total of the orientation density in the Cube orientation around the rolling direction from the Cube orientation to the Goss orientation is <=65 times that in the random orientation, and (3) the total of the orientation density in the Goss orientation within an inclination of 15 deg. is 20 times that in the random orientation, and further, the width of the old grain boundary in the cross section is <=30μm.
