PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new lipid composition used in cosmetics for protection of skin and improvement of chapped skin by improving water retaining ability or increasing water barrier function of a horny layer and cosmetics and medicines or the like using the composition. SOLUTION: This liquid composition comprises (A) one or more components selected from a group comprising 2-acylaminoalkane-1,3-diol and its optically active compounds, (B) one or more components selected from a group comprising a 2-acylaminoalkane-1,3-diol having at least one hydroxyls substituted atαorβposition of the acyl group and its optically active compounds and (C) at least a component selected from a group comprising sterols, and the component (A), (B) and (C) are mixed in a ratio capable of having a liquid crystal structure, and the cosmetic or the medicine or the like including the lipid composition.
