Unmanned aerial vehicle for low altitude operation using a rotor for propulsion

The vehicle has a fixed vane rotor (1) directly attached to a motor (5). The pay load (7) is suspended by a two axis pivoting joint (9) that allows the load to hang vertically due to gravity. Motion control of the vehicle is by four independent servo operated control surfaces that are attached to the motor housing and positioned in the air flow from the rotor. These are designed to counter the turning moment of the rotor and to stabilise pitch and jaw.
