Lactic acid bacteria combination (I) comprising of 5-95% by weight of total combination of Lactobacillus pentosus and 5-95% by weight of total combination of Streptococcus thermophilus and/or L.paracasei and/or L.helveticus and/or their mutants or derivatives, is new. An independent claim is also included for a composition (II) comprising (I), in admixture with an excipient. ACTIVITY : Antiinflammatory; Gastrointestinal-Gen.; Antiulcer; Laxative; Antidiarrheic; Hypotensive; Antibacterial; Antidiabetic; Cytostatic; Immunosuppressive. The antidiarrheal activity of lactic acid bacteria composition was determined in vivo. Thirty-two cancer patients with diarrhorea secondary to fluoro-pyrimidine-based therapy were subjected for treatment. Sixteen patients received a composition of Streptococcus thermophilus 5.71X101>1>, Lactobacillus paracasei 7.93X101>0>, L.pentosus 1.59X101>0>, Bifidobacterium acidophilus 3.18X101>0>, L.helveticus 1.59X101>0>, B.breve 1.42X101>1>, B.lactis 2.12X109>, B.bifidum 1.42X101>1>, two packets per day for 4 days. At the end of the period, the diarrhorea was resolved in 9 out of the 16 patients treated. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Modulates activity of COX-2; Inactivates cytokine (claimed). |
