Cleaning air, especially for removing dust and smoke gases in work areas, comprises mechanical and/or electrostatic filtration, separation of the impurities, and removal. After the air has been filtered, it is passed through a liquid. Solid impurities are allowed to precipitate and are then removed. The liquid is an aqueous NaClO and NaOH. The arrangement used comprises a filter tower (T) with walls (8), a bath (60), suction openings (16) and an outer chamber (92).
