PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power converter, which can prevent damage of its power device without stopping its inverter system. SOLUTION: The electric power converter has a short-circuit detecting circuit 15, which detects a short-circuited state of the power device (IGBT) 11; a gate control circuit 14, which puts the power device 11 to the operation-suspended state for a predetermined time after detecting the short-circuited state by the short-circuit detecting circuit 15, and makes the power device 11 in an operation- possible state after a lapse of a predetermined time; a time generating circuit (an input prohibiting circuit) 16, which defines the predetermined time, by measuring the time since the short-circuited state is detected by the short-circuit detecting circuit 15. |
