The process involves imprinting marks (12) on a carrying component (1) and detecting the marks on the carrying component with a sensor (8). A seam (11) is detected on the carrying component with another sensor (7). The detected sensor values read by former sensor (8) is discharged in the area of the seam. The latter sensor (7) transmits a sensor signal to a control mechanism (15). An independent claim is also included for a control mechanism of a printing machine.
