Thin film magnetic sensor and method of manufacturing the same

The sensor has two pairs of thin film yokes (24b, 24c), each formed by a soft magnetic material. A giant magnetoresistance (GMR) film (26) has an electrical resistivity higher than the material. The GMR film is formed on a facing surface of one thin film yoke positioned to face another thin film yoke. The length of a gap (24a) is defined by the thickness of the GMR film positioned on the facing surface. An independent claim is also included for a method of manufacturing a thin film magnetic sensor.
