A mounting (14, 28) turning about a pitch axis (18) is carried by a frame (22) turning about a perpendicular roll axis (16), relative to the structure (10) to which the detector (62) is fixed. An optical imaging system (34) on the roll and pitch frame assembly, is directed along a principal optical axis (42) towards the object scene, and forms an image on the detector. The laser (66) is also fixed to the structure. The laser mirror system (70) on the roll and pitch frame, aligns the laser beam parallel to the optical axis (42) whatever the frame orientation.
