<p>The invention relates to a process for forming articles, such as imitation leather or the like, from thermoplstic materials, thermosetting materials or elastomers, having at least one foamed layer. According to the invention, the process comprises the following stages: a) forming, inside a mould for slush moulding, of a first layer of material to constitute the upper, i.e. the visible layer of the finished article; b) during a further slush moulding stage, forming a second layer of foaming material on the said first layer; c) completing the consolidation, under high temperature conditions, by gelation of said layers and foaming the second layer, by using suitable means for obtaining predetermined thicknesses and shapes of the foamed layer, to the resulting layered material there being coupled a support means made of rigid material, where the suitable means for reaching predetermined thicknesses and shapes are either a counter-mould, or the support means made of rigid material.</p> |
