FIELD: water treatment. ^ SUBSTANCE: water containing nitrates as impurities is passed through porous carrier containing transition metal capable of activating molecular hydrogen and bearing, attached to it, denitrification bacterial strains, which can survive under oxygen-free conditions in presence of hydrogen as reducing agent, pH value of reaction mixture being maintained between 4.5 and 7.8 by means of carbon dioxide.
