PURPOSE: An uplink synchronization acquiring method of a mobile communication system, particularly for notifying a terminal of acquired synchronization of uplink by using downlink power control bits, is provided to enhance uplink synchronization acquiring performance by devising a specific TPC(Transmit Power Control) pattern used for downlink TPC and applying a detection method suitable for the TPC pattern. CONSTITUTION: In case that 'n' is 0, altogether there are three cases where an RSE(Random Single Error) can be generated, so a base station transmits three zeros(000), instead of three consecutive TPC bits, as a synchronization acquiring indicator. In case that 'n' is 1 or 2, altogether there are five cases where the RSE can be generated, so the base station transmits five zeros(00000), instead of five consecutive TPC bits, as a synchronization acquiring indicator. In case that 'n' is 3 to 30, the base station transmits six zeros(000000), instead of six consecutive TPC bits, as a synchronization acquiring indicator in consideration of all the cases where the RSE can be generated. Thus, the base station transmits the synchronization acquiring indicator to a terminal by using the TPC pattern irrespective of the reception error or in consideration of the reception error, and the terminal detects the corresponding synchronization acquiring indicator and estimates whether the base station has acquired synchronization of uplink.
