PURPOSE: A device and method for compensating an automatic lathe is provided to improve the reliability of a workpiece and work efficiency by precisely and automatically compensating the thermal deformation of a ball screw. CONSTITUTION: A device for compensating an automatic lathe is composed of a touch sensor(40) installed at one end of a ball screw(20), and a control unit. The touch sensor is in contact with a horizontally moving unit(30), and detects the position of the horizontally moving unit. The control unit calculates and compensates a difference between a reference coordinate value and the detected value, and controls the ball screw and the horizontally moving unit according to the compensated value.
