PURPOSE: A repeater for automatically setting an output level and a method for automatically setting an output level, particularly for automatically setting an output level by changing digital variable resistance of a repeater according to an input signal and an output signal, are provided to precisely adjust an output level and enhance productivity compared to an analog method. CONSTITUTION: When an operator inputs a target input level and output level(501), a testing input signal is generated from a signal generator according to the input level and then inputted to a repeater(502). A controller starts setting an output level according to the inputted target input level and output level. Namely, the controller provides a reference voltage value obtained by changing a value of a digital variable resistor to a comparator(503) and the comparator compares the reference voltage value with a voltage value detected by a voltage detector and transmits a result to the controller(504). The controller determines whether an output level has been determined according to the comparison result(505). If the output level has not been determined, the controller repeats the process to set an output level(506).
