PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium in which the output difference caused by the difference of the run direction of the recorded signals of short wavelengths is less on a magnetic recording medium in which recording and reproducing are performed in two directions. SOLUTION: Two laminated metal thin films having a rhombic prism structure are formed on a surface of a non-magnetic supporter as a magnetic layer so that (1) the growth directions of the rhombic prism structure are tilted in the reverse direction each other for the normal line of a medium run direction and (2) the thickness of a first metal thin film of a lower layer is assumed to T1, the thickness of a second metal thin film of an upper layer is assumed to T2, and the shortest wavelength of a signal recorded on a magnetic recording medium is assumed toλminμm, T2/T1satisfies the formula (1).
