PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a folding door type sliding door device which improves an aesthetic appearance by making doors flush with each other so as to keep an installation space to a requisite minimum, without the occurrence of a step on a floor surface below an opening. SOLUTION: In this folding door type sliding door device, a sliding door panel 15 is held in a suspended state by being slidably engaged with a guide rail fixed above the opening of a wall body W, via a sash sheave 25a. A folding door body 20 makes a door-end-side folding door panel 18 turnably coupled to the panel 15, makes a door-tail-side folding door panel 19 turnably coupled to a support such as the wall body W, and makes both the panels 18 and 19 foldably coupled together by engagement of tooth parts of a gear hinge 30 with at least a pair of the arc-shaped cross-section tooth parts wherein tooth spaces are formed in a longitudinal direction. A folding-door starting means E for pushing both the panels 18 and 19 in a folding direction, wherein mutual stile surface sides are separated from the wall body in synchronization with the initial motion of opening of the panel 15, is annexed between the both the panels 18 and 19.
