PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel-structured carbon nanofiber. SOLUTION: The carbon nanofiber has a fine dendrite structure having many branches. The method for preparing the carbon nanofiber comprises a synthesis step wherein a core made of a thermally decomposable, disappearing resin and a shell which is carried by the core and made of a carbon precursor polymer are synthesized to give a fine particle, a step for melt spinning the fine particle, and a step wherein the core and the shell are fired to carbonize the carbon precursor to convert the precursor into the carbon nanofiber having a dendrite structure having many branches.
