The invention is an interactive, rational panel design system over a computer network without human intervention other than by the customer. A network-based, computer-implemented method for the design of screening panels of organisms takes advantage of the worldwide presence of culture collections and databases which are forged into a network providing genetic data to a database basic to the process. Based on criteria supplied by the customer, the associated computer at a location remote from the customer, designs the most economical panel to submit to the customer. In a subsequent operation the customer may order one or more of the selected organisms. |
