PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame-retardant coating agent composition which forms a flame-retardant coating film excellent in transparency though containing magnesium hydroxide particles as a flame retardant; and to provide its use. SOLUTION: The flame-retardant coating agent composition comprises a resin, a flame retardant, a dispersant, and a dispersing medium and contains magnesium hydroxide particles having≤0.15μm average particle size as the flame retardant in an amount of 30-900 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. resin. Preferably, the magnesium hydroxide particles are treated with at least one treating agent selected from among phosphates, silicates, zinc salts (except phosphates, silicates, and borates), borates, and boric acid. A flame-retardant molded article having a flame-retardant coating film formed from the flame-retardant coating composition on its surface is also provided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
