<p>A chemical industry reactor assembly has an internal hydraulic motor with a drive shaft lubricated and protected from product ingress. The product or ingredients exert pressure on a seal with a flange, upper and lower bearings and a labyrinth seal. The mixer blades exert pressure on the bearing, which has a number of inner channels. Fluid passes at higher pressure through the channels than that generated by the mixer and emerging through a through an interface around the labyrinth seal. The upper bearing (7) has channels, pores or boreholes through which liquid is forced, thereby exerting a counter-force to that of the mixer, preventing friction between rotating surfaces. The pressure in the hydraulic medium is such that the boiling point is not reached under normal operating conditions. When the assembly is not operating, the seal is effected by the weight of the mixer blades and shaft. In the static condition, a passage is opened to rinse the radial labyrinth bearing with liquid. Also claimed is a method of operation regulated by a micro-computer.</p> |
