A method and system for measuring a weight of a deposit that forms on a tube bank independently-suspended by one or more hanger rods (152) within a boiler are characterized by having one or more strain sensors and one or more load sensors (168), with each strain sensor (166) being affixed to a separate hanger rod (152) and each load sensor (168) being coupled to a separate hanger rod (152). The strain sensors (166) and load sensors (168) are connected to a logic circuit for reading strain and/or load readings from the strain and/or load sensors and calculating the weight of the deposit as a function of the strain and/or load readings.
