<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical treatment instrument capable of rotating a surgical treatment part mounted at the tip of an insertion part around an axis orthogonally crossing the longitudinal axis of the surgical treatment instrument, and capable of operating the surgical treatment part to rotate around the axis and to be opening/closing while rotating, securely performing the open/close operation, and securely holding the posture. <P>SOLUTION: This surgical treatment instrument 1 comprises a treatment part opening/closing operation part 80 with handles 81 and 82, a treatment part operation rod 9 inserted into an insertion part 3 to be moved forward/backward by the operation of the handle 82, a rotation base 34 disposed at the tip of the insertion part 3 rotatably in the direction orthogonally crossing the longitudinal axis, a rotation base operating rod 10 whose tip is connected to the base 34 for rotating the base 34 by the forward/backward movement, a treatment part base 23 connected to the base 34 with the treatment part 2 to be opened/closed by the forward/backward motions of the treatment part operation rod 9, and a joint member 25 for connecting the treatment part 2 and the treatment part operation rod 9.
