PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable highly accurately detecting a synchronization pattern for representing the boundary of two-dimensional digital code, even if a pattern image changes its direction by 90°in embedding the two-dimensional digital code in the pattern image representing a bit value "1" by a symbol "/" and "0" by a symbol "backslash". SOLUTION: When the synchronization pattern constituting a synchronization code section 50 for defining the boundary of the two-dimensional digital code is a one-dimensional array of the "/", byte data in which the "backslash" and "/" are mingled are arranged in a vacant region of a digital data 54 for storing recorded data. Also, the data in the section 54 are converted for each bite by an exclusive OR operation to avoid the uneven proportion of "/" to "backslash" constituting each row and each column of the section 54.
