PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas burner capable of carrying out combustion in a favorable state with little danger of explosion, and capable of changing a form of heating in response to the type of an object to be heated. SOLUTION: A through-hole 6 is formed in an upper wall part of a mixed gas chamber 2 supplied with mixed gas of combustion gas and air, a combustion plate 11 made of a porous material is provided on its upper side, and mixed gas from the mixed gas chamber 2 is burned on a top face of the combustion plate 11. A space part 7 for communicating mixed gas with a cross-sectional area that is wider than the through-hole 6 is provided between an upper end of the through-hole 6 and a bottom face of the combustion plate 11 so that mixed gas flowing out through the through-hole 6 from the mixed gas chamber 2 is distributed well to the bottom face of the combustion plate 11. A packing 13 with an opened center part is interposed between a top face of the mixed gas chamber 2 and the bottom face of the combustion plate 11.
