PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear compressor provided with high compression efficiency and reliability by effectively reducing temperature of circumference of a cylinder. SOLUTION: A linear motor 107, the cylinder 116 forming a compression chamber 155, a piston connected to a needle 104 and reciprocating in the cylinder 116, and leaf springs 119a, 119b carrying out reciprocating vibrating in connection with reciprocating motion of the needle 104 are provided in a hermetic vessel 113. A communication passage 146 communicating a space A137 and a space B 143 is provided in the cylinder 116. The cylinder 116 of high temperature is cooled directly from the communication passage 146 of the cylinder 116 by using pressure pulsation generated in the space A 137 in connection with vibration of the leaf spring 109a and heat is discharged to the hermetic vessel 113. Consequently, a heat generating part can be efficiently cooled and the linear compressor provided with high compression efficiency and high reliability can be provided. A problem that it is difficult to efficiently cool heat generation of a compression mechanism part due to compression work and that temperature of the compression mechanism part raises to cause deterioration of efficiency and reliability can be solved.
