PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nano-phase TaC-transition metal based complex powder. SOLUTION: A method for producing the nano-phase TaC-transition metal based complex powder includes: dispersing water-soluble salt containing Ta chloride or Ta oxalate and the transition metal into water or organic solvent or stirring after dissolving; spray-drying the stirred mixed raw material to obtain precursor powder; applying calcining heat treatment to the precursor powder to make ultra-fine granular Ta-transition metal complex oxide powder followed by mixing nano-size carbon grain into the ultra-fine granular Ta-transition metal complex powder; and applying reduction-carburizing heat treatment to the complex oxide powder after drying under non-oxidizing atmosphere.
