<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image data transmission method capable of transmitting image data within a specified transmission time, even if the volume of the image data is large or a communication line in use is slow in the transmission rate. <P>SOLUTION: First of all, data for measuring a transmission rate for a data volume established beforehand is transmitted to a desired computer 5 through a communication line 4, and an execution transmission rate via the communication line 4 to the computer 5 is measured according to a receipt notice transmitted from the computer 5. Next, image data to be transmitted are compressed so that the image data can be transmitted within a specified transmission time, when the image data are transmitted to the computer 5 with the execution transmission rate.
