PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize bit strip detection and clock detection simultaneously with a single mark in multi-value recording. SOLUTION: As shown in (b) in the Fig., when recording information by, for example, 8 bits, a synchronization mark for detecting a bit strip is expressed by a data row "000070000" where 0 is adopted for a large reflected light quantity and 7 is for a small reflected light quantity, and the pattern surrounded with the dashed line frame in the Fig. is the same clock mark as the one for extracting a clock in reproducing the information.
