PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the corrosion resistance of a magnetoresistive effect magnetic head and maintain a high magnetoresistive effect rate. SOLUTION: In the magnetoresistive effect magnetic head 20 provided with a spin valve film 40 as a magnetism sensing element which detects a magnetic signal while contacting a magnetic recording medium, a nonmagnetic high conductive layer is provided, with its contact with a free magnetization layer, on a surface opposite to a nonmagnetic layer forming surface constituting the spin valve film 40. The materials of the nonmagnetic layer, magnetization pinned layer, free magnetization layer and nonmagnetic high conductive layer are specified, and the corrosion potential of the spin valve film is +0.4(V vs SHE) or larger to a standard hydrogen electrode when measured in a 0.1 mol/L NaCl solution.
