MICROWAVE COOKING CONTAINER WITH VENTING PATCH

A venting patch to vent steam during microwave steam cooking of food in a container is described. The venting patch is sealed to the outside surface of the container and surrounds apertures defined in the surface of the container. Alternatively, the venting patch surrounds the opening for removing food from and placing food into the container. The seal is broken when the pressure inside the container reaches a certain level and steam is released from inside the container through the apertures. The venting patch may have a steam pocket that surrounds the apertures and traps steam that exits the container. The steam pocket defines steam guides and horns that can be arranged to allow a gradual and controlled release of pressure from inside the container.
