The arrangement comprises a gas collection device which extends around the gap between the ladle cover (2) and ladle opening and which is sealed from the ambient atmosphere, if the ladle mantle contains sweat holes. Alternatively, the gas collection device can extend around the ladle (1) next to the cover if the ladle mantle contains sweat holes or even if it contains no such sweat holes. The gas collection device is connected to a gas suction device (6), which in turn is connected to a separate burner from the one in the ladle cover, or the gas suction device can be connected to a pipe leading into the combustion region. The ladle cover is provided with a duct (4) for removing fumes and gases.
