PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of stay of liquid to be treated at the lower part of a filter provided with an inlet port for the liquid to be treated and an outlet port for filtrate at the upper head. SOLUTION: This filter has a filter element 10 formed of a porous inner cylinder 3, a filter medium 11 disposed around the porous cylinder, a porous outer cylinder 5 disposed around the filter medium, and upper and lower lids 7, 9 sealing upper and lower ends of the filter medium; an airtight housing 15 provided surrounding the peripheral surface and bottom face of the filter element; the inlet port 19 for the liquid to be treated and the outlet port 21 for the filtrate; and a head 23 airtightly closing the upper end of the housing. In this filter, a cup-like guide member 27 forming inner and outer flow passages between the filter element 10 and the housing 15 respectively and having an opening at the center of the bottom is disposed between the filter element 10 and the housing 15. The inlet port 19 is communicated with the outer flow passage A or with it and the inner flow passage B, while the inner flow passage of the inner cylinder 3 is communicated with the outlet port 21.
