PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate a threshold voltage of a driving transistor and to prevent an unnecessary current from being caused to flow to a display element.

SOLUTION: In the pixel circuit of an organic EL display device, a gate of compensation transistor M2 constituted with a diode is connected to the gate of the driving transistor M1 in order to compensate the threshold voltage of the driving transistor. While a selection signal is transmitted on the immediately preceding scanning line Sn-1, a precharge voltage is applied to the gate of the transistor M1. The transistor M1 and an organic EL element are electrically separated by a transistor M5 so that the organic EL element OLED does not emit light due to the precharge voltage. In addition, the transistor M1 and the organic EL element are electrically separated by the transistor M5 so that the organic EL element does not emit light even while the data voltage is charged into a capacitor Cst.
