PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which decreases image defects while maintaining conveyance capability of a recording material. SOLUTION: In the moving direction of a transfer belt 71, the length of a region where the transfer belt 71 and a transfer blade 74 come into contact is smaller than the length of the region where a photosensitive drum 1 and the recording material carried on the transfer belt 71 come into contact. The transfer belt 71 is provided with a first layer for carrying the recording material and a second layer with which the transfer means comes into contact at the time of image transfer.
