PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for effectively controlling a "bur cucumber" (Sicyos angulatus) which has a large effect on the whole ecosystem, by an operation of preventing its seeds from being ripened, or the like, to overcome such a problem that its control is difficult because it grows small thorns in a large amount. SOLUTION: This method comprises cutting the whole community of plants including the "bur cucumber" in the longitudinal and transverse directions in such a manner as to form a chessboard pattern, by using "a reaping hook whose handle is extended or the like" in a vertically standing posture, in a period starting from blooming to ending at ripening of the seeds, so that all of the stems are cut at a specified interval or less, wherein the method is developed based on facts that the "bur cucumber" is an annual vine, its lateral buds sprout from axils of true leaves of grown stems and then grow into young stems, the true leaves gradually wither away from parts near its root according to growth of the stems, and new lateral buds do not sprout from parts where the true leaves have been withered. Therefore, all of the parts above the cut parts wither away. Further, the new lateral buds do not sprout from the "bur cucumber" positioned on the root side of the cut parts and having no true leaves, so that growth of the "bud cucumber" is prevented thereafter, and the seeds are not ripened.
