The device has a support system with a base plate having a number of lifting pins arranged in a grid. The height of the lifting pins can be adjusted between rest and coating positions with respect to the base plate. The lifting pins are adjusted using pneumatic actuators (12) and are secured at the desired height by mechanical locking strips (13) that engage the lifting pins.
